Concrete

Kirk paving uses only high quality concrete. Fiber is introduced into the mix (FiberMesh®) to build a strong surface. We use 4500 pound test concrete. 4000 pound test concrete is typically used in residential concrete paving. No concrete is poured over mud and pea gravel. We only pour over a compacted limestone surface. This helps to stop sinkage, and we believe this assures a longer-lasting surface.

Fibermesh® reinforcement is made from polypropylene or nylon and can be used to replace (or in addition to,) conventional concrete reinforcement.  Fibermesh® is added prior to placement of the concrete which dramatically reduces labor costs.

Benefits of using Fibermesh® in concrete construction are:

  • Reinforces against plastic shrinkage crack formation
  • Holds cracks together
  • Is rustproof and corrosion resistant
  • Is non-magnetic
  • Requires no "minimum cover"
  • Is safe and easy to use
  • Reinforces against impact forces
  • Reinforces against water migration
  • Reinforces against abrasion
  • Has 3-dimensional post crack qualities
